UPS Price Gouging email - translated from Czech

Just had to pass this along - the very popular German Courts and Residences boxed set has been on order since early March. Our distributor, whose warehouse is based in the Czech Republic, finally sent the order on March 13, 2020. 

The order was in Germany by Sunday, and at JFK Airport on Wednesday morning at 1 AM. 

The item was marked "Exception" upon its arrival in New York, and I called UPS to find out why it was marked like that. I received the following email at 8:41 AM New York time, translated from Czech, using Google Translate:

I apologize for inaccurate information over the phone. The fact is that the consignment is already on its way to the US. Unfortunately, we are forced to pay 16 460 CZK. This is more of a hit.

UPS cannot be the consequence of the immediate cancellation of all passenger flights between Europe and the US as a result of a decision by the US government in response to the worldwide epidemic.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

Back to reality...

1. The shipment was actually in New York when I called UPS.

2. The US didn't close down any freight flights, although it's not unusual for a small parcel like this (220 lbs) to be shipped on a commercial flight.

I'm guessing this really meant, we're going to double everything currently in the system because the system might be empty by this time next week. 

We've asked UPS for further information - and they did deliver the items 4 days early (it was originally scheduled to be delivered Tuesday).
