LOS TEXMANIACS: BORDERS Y BAILES

"Hip music that everybody in the world can relate to, with the traditional conjunto elements," says Texmaniacs leader Max Baca of their Texas Mexican sound. Four masterful instrumentalists—Grammy-anointed bajo sexto player Max Baca, accordionist and Tropa F alumnus David Farías, conjunto tejano veteran bassist Óscar García, and multi-instrumentalist Lorenzo Martínez on drums—breathe new life into the century-old music of the Texas Rio Grande Valley. Their mentor and friend, Tejano accordion great Flaco Jiménez, makes a special appearance.
"Música hip con la que todo el mundo puede identificarse, y con elementos del conjunto tradicional," así dice Max Baca, líder de los Texmaniacs refiriéndose a su sonido México-Tejano. Cuatro maestros - en el bajo sexto y nominado al Grammy, Max Baca, en el acordeón, alumno de la Tropa F, David Farias, en el bajo, el veterano del conjunto tejano, óscar García, y en la batería el multifacético Lorenzo Martínez - inyectan nueva vida a esta música del Rio Grande con 100 años de historia. Su mentor y amigo, el gran acordeonista Flaco Jiménez, hace una aparición especial.

Los Texmaniacs are two-time Smithsonian Folklife Festival participants, performing on the National Mall in Washington D.C., in 2008 as part of the Texas program and again in 2009 as part of Las Américas: Un Mundo Musical.
