JADIN: String Quartets, Op. 1 - Quatuor Franz Joseph

The Quatuor Franz Joseph invites us to discover the three string quartets of Opus 1 (Work 1) by Hyacinthe Jadin, a little-known French composer today. He was born in 1776 in Versailles into a family of musicians and died young of tuberculosis at the age of 24 on September 27, 1800 at the dawn of a promising career. By their architecture in four movements inherited from Haydn and by their writing, the quartets of Jadin foreshadow the great contrapuntal developments of the 19th century; through their aesthetics tinged with pre-Romanticism, they embody a French-style Sturm und Drang that announces the Schubertian universe. The Quatuor Franz Joseph was created in 2002 by four enthusiastic musicians and among the most active in Montreal on period string instruments, in order to fully enjoy the string quartet repertoire of the Age of Enlightenment while remaining open and lookout for parallel directories.
