Nikita Magaloff: Milestones of a Legend (10 CDs)

This selection of Magaloff's art is mainly devoted to his repertoire on Chopin. (all Mazurkas, Piano Concerto No. 1, Recital). It also contains legendary recordings of the works of Schumann (Carnival, Symphonic Studies), Beethoven (Piano Concerto No. 5, Sonata Op 109), Granados (Goyescas), Liszt (Transcendental Execution Studies after Paganini, Sonata S 178), as well as compositions by Haydn, Handel and Mozart.

Nikita Magaloff was one of the great piano virtuosos of the twentieth century and still enjoys an outstanding reputation, especially as a performer of Chopin. He is also considered an excellent performer of works by Schumann, Mozart, Beethoven, Liszt and Stravinsky. His name represents the elegant style, the cultivated lightness of French influence and a piano rich in colors and nuances. Born in Russia in 1912, the pianist was a great disciple of Liszt and Chopin in Paris, where he studied composition with Prokofiev. Magaloff had particularly close ties with another professor, Igor Stravinsky, who had fled to Paris with his family before the Revolution. In Stravinsky's opinion, the compatriot was a perfect interpreter of his works. This can easily be heard in Magaloff's remarkable performance of the Piano and Wind Concerto, which is included in this box of original albums + bonus tracks from the years 1937 to 1962.
