The London Symphony Orchestra is widely recognized as one of the finest orchestras in the world. Resident orchestra of the Barbican in London, the LSO presents more than 70 concerts annually. Michael Francis revealed himself as a conductor in January 2007 when he replaced at short notice an indisposed Valery Gergiev during a concert with the London Symphony Orchestra.
